Here I am on Wednesday evening reporting the horribly depressing news of our loss. OK depressed is a bit exaggerated but extremely disappointed might be a better description. Still on dial up hating life but I guess I have to do what I have to do. Boy, we seem to like taking the lead and then just letting the game slip away. I don’t think it is skill, preparation….it boils down to a little more heart and a willingness to make your teammates look better. That’s everyone giving one hundred percent knowing that your teammates have your back. Should be a given right. And of course if you ask any one of us we would say that you can count on me. But how many ball drop on defense being hit past the block, how many balls are left uncovered, how many times does one not better the setter’s set or passers pass. Even if one is not able to better the ball, effort in the end is what counts and we gave up as a team it appeared. So back to the gym. By the way, the loss was to Rexona defending champions and thorn in Finasa’s side.

Hey I had my first international perm (relaxer/hair straightener) you got it here in Brazil. I left the saloon in much better condition visually that upon my arrival. But I got to tell you the experience was quite different. We women are used to going to the beauty palor and staying for several hours… But in this case, the stylist started applying the perm to my hair from the back and then stopped! Left me sitting there for eight minutes with perm only in the lower portion of my head. After several minutes passed, I stood to find her applying perm to someone else, moving to shampoo yet another person’s hair. I was outraged. Icould not believe what was happening. Usual the perm is applied to the entire head, worked, then shampood. When she finally returned to continue I was slightly relieved to learn that the process is a bit different here. I was dubious but seems the end result was fine. You’ll know differently if the next time you see me I am wearing a wig…. hehhehehehehe.

That is it for now, take care and blessings

Geeez, I have really been doing a not so consistent job of updating, as a follower mentioned to me at the airport on my way to Rio a couple of days ago. My apologies. But I have several excuses. One I am on dial up! Two, I’ve just not found or rather made time in between practices and spending time with my husband… Three I am on dial up! HEHEHEHEHEHE!

Ok latest news is that we (Finasa) just turned in our first loss BOOOO! to Rexona. Better now than in the mini-finals to be held on Tuesday. Now it is time for Finasa to beat Rexona in a finals match. We have been in this situation but in reverse, having beaten Rexona in pool play but lost in the finals. Tuesday we will have the opportunity to put the shoe on the other foot. That is beat Rexona in this mini-finals. AMEN! We beat Brazil Telecom in the first mini-finals.

Random comment…I am pleased with the Brazilian airlines. Although the flights are often delayed, can you believe on a 50 minute flight they serve a snack and drinks! No not just peanuts and not a snack for purchase. Going to Rio they offered a sandwich. And during the return flight to Sao Paulo they offered a seafood rice dish. I declined both but it was a nice gesture and once expected of the airlines…especially with the cost of airline tickets.

On another note… MOM’s COMING OUT TO VISIT! YEAH!

Ok til the next entry,
Go Finasa!

Hello long time since the last update…. Lots to tell but I will keep it short. Let’s see. We had a match on Dec. 22 9:27am! Can you believe such and early match on a Sunday? It was televised on Global, which is a nationwide channel. Kind of like USA NBC or CBS or Italy’s RAI. Global rules….The exposure for the sport is great. We won 3-2 verses Minus but winning 3-2 instead of 3-1 caused us to have to play the finals away from home verses Brasil Telecom who beat Rexona 3-2 in the other pool. So off to USA for Christmas. Woohoo! My husband was able to travel with me. We enjoyed our time with my family in USA making our rounds visiting everyone, until late on Christmas Day we learned that Daddy Jose had been hospitalized. Well, we were supposed to leave on Dec 26 as I had to get back to training anyway, but we missed our flight! What a horrible time especially with dad sick and in the hospital to miss our flight! Fortunately we were able to get the same flight for the next day. Unfortunately upon arriving, I had only enough time to go home pack my bags and meet the team for a trip to Brusque. But I received news that dad was doing better and out of intensive care. Amen. Please all of you Christians out there pray for healing of Daddy Jose.

Dec 28 seemed to be the longest day of my life. After traveling all night until late morning arriving in Brazil, driving home, packing, driving to the gym, taking a bus to the airport, flight delayed, arriving in Brusque, another bus ride of 2 hours to the hotel (seemed like 20 hours), eating a snack, bus to go and lift weights, followed by video…. WOW. I was so exhausted! Anyway we went on to be Brasil Telecom in five. So we are currently in first place.

HAPPY NEW YEAR! For the New Year we didn’t do much. Edu and I went to his parent’s home to bring in the new year together with his brother and sister and a few friends. The tradition here is to have a big dinner Dec 31 really close to the countdown. Then have a big lunch on January 1. We went to visit dad. Seems he is getting better although he has lost a lot of weight.

There you have it. We return to practice on Jan 4… It is raining here so I am just enjoying being at home.

Blessings! Go Finasa!
