Boooo! We lost on yesterday in four. As most times after coming from behind and winning the first set, I was sure that we were ready, in the right frame of mind, filled with spirit and will to win the match….BUT we ended up losing in four. Ultimately too many errors from our side and they out blocked us. Well, our team seems to play with more confidence at home, which is a good thing since we have to win in order to stay in it. But it makes it difficult to have any different results from the last when we have to play the final match at Perugia. I was reminiscing with a fellow Long Beach State Alumni, Antoinette White, about how much pride we had each time we stepped on the court. It didn’t matter the gym. We claimed every gym we walked in and played in it as if it were our own. Didn’t matter the crowd, we played to silence them. Or the officiating, to the best of our abilities we wouldn’t let the game become so close where the officiating would make a difference…. Well, first thing win at home on Saturday.

Hello All,

Continuing with good news….we won tonight against Vicenza in three. Woohoo! All praises go up. Tomorrow we are off. Monday we will travel to Perugia for the first of the best of three final series of the League Cup. We are blessed to have an opportunity to finish the season strong. Although we didn’t do as well as we would have like in the league, nor did we meet our two goals for the European Cup or Italian Cup, we find ourselves still fighting until the end now with the hope of getting this title.

Tonight I think I experienced a first of my career. I didn’t attack one single ball in the entire first set nor my first three rotations in the second set! Now that’s incredible. But we won that set and the match so that’s what is most important. I had to do a lot of self talk to stay focused on blocking, touching balls, celebrating each play (well that comes naturally) and other things that I could control. And to continue driving and be ready for whenever I might be given a set. I hit the first ball out! BOO! Another strange thing happened during this match…I was set a 2 ball in transition. Now that brought back memories. When I returned to the National Team in ‘98 (I took a couple summers to try my hand at the WNBA), I was set a medium high set in the center of the net during transition or bad serve receive passes. Ahhh, those were the days. I got a kill by the way, hehehehehe. Even though I didn’t participate a lot in the attack I am happy with my performance and even more so with the teams. OH yes and of course the victory! Each person contributed in some form or other, truly a team win.

Well, that’s it for now.

Well, we are out of the fight for the Seria A1 championship. We lost the best of three series against Novara 1-2. After a grand performance on our home court, I was left hopeful, actually rather certain that we would win on Wednesday. We fought to win the first set. But after that could not put together a solid set. We went on to loss the follow three sets.

But all is not lost. Well, for the championship yes….however we are now competing in the League Cup. Competing in this cup are the four teams that did not advance to the semi finals plus the four teams that finished ninth and tenth place during regular season. We won our first match against Forli in four. I finished the match incredibly hitting 100% in attack! 14 for 14 and six blocks! Praise God for such and outstanding performance. I’m sharing these stats because I don’t think I’ve before hit 100%. I am very happy about it.

Anyway, enough about that… We will play on Saturday at home against Vicenza. With that win we will advance to the best of three finals of the League Cup.

HAPPY EASTER! It has been a wonderful day. My mom and I went to church and celebrated the risen Christ Jesus, leaving renewed in spirit. Then we went to have lunch with my Italian family.

Tomorrow I will go to the mountains with them, after taking my mom to the airport. BOO! My mommy is leaving. But I really enjoyed her. Unfortunately my dad wasn’t able to visit this season. Hopefully this summer maybe he will come out to Colorado while I am training with the National team.

That’s it for now.

Blessings,

Danielle

Hello All,

Praise God for our victory! Boy what a great feeling to see our team finally put together a solid match again…Everybody in the gym were on their feet. Finally a gift to all of our supporters. I felt really happy. My “adoptive” mom’s birthday was the day before and one of the two things she wanted as a gift was our victory on Sunday. (I think I mentioned once that there is an Italian family here that are like my family)… Not to say anything less of all the fans and friends I have developed here who have been really nice and supportive.

Next match on Wednesday without a doubt is extremely important for us. Thanks for your prayers and belief in us!
