Well, Supercoppa Italia has come and gone. We finished third beating Perugia in four. This week we have been training long and hard in preparation for the big rivalry match against Novara. GO CHIERI! Then we have a pretty hectic week of travel going to Arzano for the match on November 2 followed by travel to Tortoli. I hope I don’t get car sick again. I be sure to ride in the front from the beginning of the drive.

I was scheduled to have a relaxing evening in the sauna but I guess it wasn’t meant to be. When I arrived there, someone had turned the sauna off. BOO! Perhaps I will reschedule for Monday.

Blessings,

Danielle

After my scary Tuesday night, Wednesday late morning I had an appointment for a Stone Massage. It was my first ever and I think I will try to get one once a month! The person who gave me the stone massage was trained by Mary Hannigan from Tucson Arizona who “was a massage therapist wanting a way to be able to work more deeply without causing further damage to her joints and muscles.” Thus creating, “this new therapy which combines massage, thermotherapy, energy work, healing work delivered through the very ‘alive’ gifts of Mother Earth-the stones.

I give it two thumbs up. The whole experience was fascinating. Each stones used was picked specifically for my body. Varying in size and shape they each had it’s own function. Upon getting on the table I had to sit up while the therapist placed stone on the table for me to lie back onto. I was laid back a bit tentively intially expecting that the stones might be too hot. But it was perfect temperature and placement in terms of comfort. Laying back with my eyes closed, easy breaths, I felt like I was seeing moving images. It was dark obviously ’cause my eyes were closed but it reminded me of the night before when my eyes were open but I could see anything. I quickly opened my eyes and found above me lights varying in color and flashing at different intervals. Which turned out to be another form of therapy.

From then I was able to relax and take in the unique sensation of being massaged with stones. First with hot stones and then with hot and cold stones. My body melted in relaxation totally forgetting about the stones that had been placed on my forehead, chest, sternum, and stomach until she removed them. Though the stones were not large or heavy, I felt as if something was lifted with them. It was weird. Oh, I also had stones placed between each of my toes! It was kind of cool, not uncomfortable at all.

It was interesting how my body responded to this massage. Places where I was sore or for instance my left knee that aches sometimes, the stones seems to have gotten hotter. I asked the therapist if the stones were not to hot for her hands? She said that it was just my body responding to the therapy, but that the stones were not any more hot to her touch. She said she could also feel resistance from different muscles groups that were fatigued.

Anyway, that was my experience….now with having had a few more days of concentrated practices I am ready for the Italian Super Cup semifinal match against Bergamo! I feel the team is stronger today than last week.

Those followers who are here in Italy please come out and support us. We need your spirit and energy!

GO CHIERI!

Let me tell you about my Tuesday night scary sauna near death experience. Well, thank God I am OK right now, but apparently I over stayed my time in the sauna. I only was in for about thirty minutes total, not consecutive minutes. I totally did my usual routine. After my last five minutes, I sat for a minute drank some awful tasting Gatorade (I saw later that it was expired) then I went to shower. Well, while in the shower I started to feel really dizzy. Scary dizzy like I was going to pass out! I imagined falling out and hitting my head or something like in the movies and no one finding me until it was too late. So I grabbed my towel, wrapped it around me and stumbled out of the shower room into the weight lifting area. It was about 9:30 so I didn’t expect to find many people but at least one of the trainer who worked there. There was only one person who was working out still to whom I asked to get me help. At that point my vision was quite blurred but I manages to spot a chair where I plotted down in it. He ran up the stairs in search of someone but after a few minutes returned saying that there was no one left but a boxing instructor. Everyone was gone! There I was covered only by a towel with a stranger standing helplessly in front of me. I still couldn’t see clearly but I was feeling a little bit better so I went back to the locker room. The door barely closed behind me when I lost my balance. I fell forward hitting my head on the wall, then stumbled backwards held up by my wobbling legs and the door to the sauna. Thank God it opened outwards otherwise I would have collapsed through it and I’d be telling a different ending Long story shortened a bit, I sat for a moment praying every second, and was able to shower, get changed and make it home safely. Philipo was still there working out so I was able to thank him for his attempt in helping. But how embarrassing! I told my trainer about the incident and he said that I might have been dehydrated from practice. I will definitely take even more precautions in terms of that at least the next time I go for relaxation in the sauna.

Take Care, Blessings,
Danielle

PS We are 1-2 for the season so far.

Abbiamo vinto la partita verso Forli! (We won the game verses Forli)! OK it wasn’t all pretty but we brought three points home towards league ranking. We won in 4. Our fans were great. We were down several points in the fourth set but they would not let us give up. Not that we would have given up but they gave that extra home court energy that helped us win 26-24!

Today, several of us had to go to the grocery store Famila to promote the up coming tournament to be played in Torino. It reminded me of my first job that I held for one entire day. I was that person to greet you in the grocery store with sample of food and coupon! Right then and there I decided studying and volleyball or sports was what I wanted to do. And I am still blessed to be doing it.

That’s it for now,
Blessings,
Danielle

Disappointing opening season. We lost in five to Vicenza who pulled out all the stops. I think everyone on their team played. Couple of positives for us. We didn’t play that well. We didn’t play so poorly either. But we did make several mistakes at critical times. That tends to make the difference. But the other positive is….we’ve got reinforcement coming. YEAH! And also it just the beginning of the season.

Well, that’s it for now. We’ll keep working hard to get better.

Hey,
Sorry for the late entry, this was actually written several days ago. Anywho… Made it through Hurricane Rita too. Thanks everyone for your prayers, thoughts and donations. My family is fine, I am fine. Our roof top took a little more of a beating but not as bad as the garage around the corner that had a tree collapse through it.

Well, I am on my way to Italy. You wouldn’t believe the challenge that I again faced this year with getting my visa. So, the main Italian Consulate for the Louisiana region is located in Houston. The peripheral branch that I would go to in person (requirement) is located in New Orleans or rather was there before Hurricane Katrina. As a result of its’ destruction I was left trying to contact the main Consulate in Houston. When I spoke with someone from the Consulate I was advised to try the New Orleans number, that perhaps they had relocated near by or even in Baton Rouge. With no luck contacting the New Orleans branch I call Houston seeking info about my next step. I left a couple of voice messages and sent an email neither of which weren’t replied to initially. By the time I spoke with someone, Houston was in an uproar because of approaching Hurricane Rita. The visa department was closed from Thursday until Tuesday the following week. Yikes! My date of departure Oct 2, was coming up quickly. I worked vigorously to get a flight out to Houston on Tuesday but the fares were outrageous! $2200 for a round trip ticket. The office was closed on Wednesday and to go to Houston on Thursday would be cutting it close. But it seemed I had no choice. So I found and purchased a ticket to depart for Houston Thursday and return on Friday. Meanwhile on Wednesday evening I had my hair braided, ten (10) hours mind you…by the time I got home I just went to bed. But wouldn’t you know it, the day I didn’t check my email I received a reply from the Consulate in Houston stating that I could mail my documents after all. Yeah! Boo! It was already Thursday! But I had no where to stay if I took the flight. It was difficult to find a hotel and the family I usually stay with when I would visit Houston, I lost contact with them because evacuation in preparation for Hurricane Rita! Yes, a never-ending story it seems. Nevertheless, I work feverishly to make sure the package would be delivered by five. I had no choice but to go out to meet the FedEx driver who was stuck in traffic or otherwise possibly miss the air delivery flight!
There more to tell about the almost miss in delivering the package upon its’ touch down in Houston but I just go on to an absolutely must….giving special thanks to Giovanni Crescenzo, who stayed at least an hour and half after work to receive my documents and further do the necessary step in processing my visa that evening. THANK YOU!

A sigh of relief but I still was at peace until I received my passport with visa in hand on Saturday. One of the positives in all of this, each year that I’ve had difficulty or rather challenges getting my visa, I have had a pretty good season :-)

Stay tuned,
Blessings to ya,
Danielle
